Our story last week on UFOs over Keighley caused a spooky stir.

Several people called to say they too had seen strange things in the skies above the town.

Sophie Seal, 13, of Best Lane, Oxenhope, says she saw a silver ball with a red ring around it hovering in the evening sky above Keighley College. "I saw it about two months ago when I was in a car travelling down to Keighley College," she says. "It was in the sky above the library and college."

Pamela Spencer Cairns, from Woodhouse Road, says she spied a short 'baguette-shaped' object from her window just after 10pm on October 5.

She says: "I was just looking across my room when I saw it flying across the skyline. My first thought was that it must be a plane, but then it just stopped and disappeared."

However, not all of the UFO spotters believe they have seen an ET from another world.

Helena Gill, from Haworth, says she believes the bright light seen above Haworth Parish Church a month ago was in fact a plane.

She says: "I used to be in the RAF observers corps and when I saw the light I just knew instinctively that it was a plane.

"We watched it bank over. It was definitely a civilian plane, but the light was very strange that night so I can understand how it might have looked like a UFO."

Allan Sheffield, 60, of Elmwood Road, Bracken Bank, says he and his wife Dorothy spotted a strange object in the sky one evening near the Herders pub.

He says: "It was a bright dome-shaped light, moving quickly and quite low in the sky. It couldn't have been a plane. We were shocked."

Allen Feather, of Denholme Road, Oxenhope, had a sighting in 1980 when he was taking photos of the night sky and happened across a strange-looking green disc when the pictures had been developed. He says: "I was looking at some photos of the night sky which I had converted into slides and this green disc immediately caught my eye. I have got a book about unexplained sightings and the green disc I saw looks exactly like a sighting in New Zealand a year earlier."

Leslie Ward, of Cherry Tree Rise, also saw something bizarre on a recent flight back from Lanzarote. Mr Ward was flying back into Leeds Bradford Airport on October 15 when he noticed an object next to the plane.

Leslie says: "We were about 20 minutes from touchdown when this object literally flashed past the aircraft. It was a triangular shape which was moving all over the sky. I managed to film it with my video camera."

Leslie sent the video to Bradford-based UFO expert Russ Kellett, who is a member of the UFO International Research Network.

Russ says: "Keighley has been having a real wave at the moment. I just don't know what's going on. People seem to be seeing a lot of the same things like the big silver balls. It is one of the biggest waves I've heard about.

"I have spoken to other ufologists and there seems to be a lot of sightings the length and breadth of the country."

Russ adds that local UFO enthusiasts are planning a millennium exhibition for the new year, and he is appealing for people to send in any photographs and drawings they may have on the subject. He can be contacted on 01274501463.
