A coroner has adjourned an inquest on a teenage girl after pleas from her family for more information.

Alexandra Rachel Clayton-Alsop, of Cliffe Wood Avenue, Shipley, died at a friend's apartment in Spain after a birthday celebration.

Bradford Coroner Roger Whittaker said that the hearing raised issues over the circumstances of her death which had not been resolved. Further inquiries will now be made with the Foreign Office into the investigation made by Spanish police.

A post mortem in Spain showed she died from cardiac respiratory arrest due to toxicosis of drugs, particularly amphetamine, cocaine and methadone.

In a statement read to the hearing, Julie Steel said her 18-year-old daughter, who worked in bars and did some hairdressing while she was there, seemed to be very positive about things, even though times were hard.

Following her death last February, her father travelled to Spain to identify her body and find out what had happened. Richard Clayton-Alsop said in a letter that her friends had told him she was living a normal life and there was no indication that she was involved in heavy drugs.

He added there was hearsay evidence that a man who was in the same apartment after the birthday party had been a known cocaine dealer and that drug-taking was taking place.

"The real truth will never be known. She placed herself in a vulnerable position which tragically ended in her death," said Mr Clayton-Alsop.
