Parents claim their children will be in danger if a car park is not soon found near a school.

Mums and dads whose children go to Foxhills First School used to park in the Pineberry Inn car park, where the licensee was also a school governor.

But a change of management at the pub has meant the parents have had to park on the busy Brighouse and Denholme Road, in the exposed Mountain area of Queensbury.

Lyn Lee, whose nine-year-old son Richard is a pupil, said she feared an accident would happen if nearby parking could not be found. "It is a bad road. We had an 18-month campaign to get the speed limit reduced to 30mph but it's still a main road.

"Mountain presents quite unique problems weatherwise. Children have had to be carried at times by teachers and parents into school to stop them being blown over.''

Ian Powell, landlord of the Pineberry Inn for two years, issued an invitation through the Telegraph & Argus to all those involved to come to a meeting at his pub at 7pm on Tuesday.

He said the school had decided to ask parents to stop parking there after he asked for a donation towards the car park's upkeep.

"I have bent over backwards for this school. I have chased people off when they are trying to break in and have re-arranged my opening hours and delivery times to accommodate the 30 or 40 cars which turn round in the car park each day," he said.

Chairman of governors Keith Jenkinson said school funds could not be spent on getting the children into school, which was the parents' responsibility.

He said the governors had also agreed not to make any financial arrangements with private companies, such as the pub.

He appealed for parents to lobby Bradford Council for action before the school expands to become a primary under the Council's schools shake-up which will increase the number of pupils from 200 to 270.

Queensbury Councillor Andrew Smith said the Council's education department told him there was no cash for a car park.
