Bradford City's outstanding achievement in clinching promotion to the Premiership was honoured at the first BBC Sports Awards in the North presentations last night.

The Bantams were voted the Best Team of 1999 after finishing second in Division One last season.

And Paul Jewell beat off competition from Leeds United's David O'Leary to be the Manager of the Year after guiding them to their triumph in his first season at the helm.

Bradford Bulls also scooped two awards.

Matthew Elliott won the Coach of the Year prize - beating off competition from Leeds boss Graham Murray and Castleford's Stuart Raper.

New Zealand stand off Henry Paul was voted Rugby League Player of the Year by the BBC viewers and listeners for helping the Bulls in 1999.
