The estranged father of Bradford toddler Daniel Grimshaw has been spotted for the first time since his child's abduction.

Detectives have spoken to a witness in Pakistan who has seen Murzhar Mahmood in the country since the kidnap six weeks ago.

As reported in the Telegraph & Argus yesterday, the witness has now returned to the UK.

Mr Mahmood, 25, has been missing from his Eccleshill home since the kidnap on November 9 and is believed to be in Pakistan.

But the man leading the inquiry, Detective Chief Superintendent Stuart Hyde, says there have still been no sightings of 14-month-old Daniel. Det Ch Supt Hyde said: "At some stage between the abduction and now, the child has not been with his father. We now have a witness who saw Daniel's father. I suspect the father may still be in Pakistan but we have had no sightings of Daniel."

Det Ch Supt Hyde urged anyone with information about the youngster's whereabouts to get in touch. "If I have evidence that someone is withholding information which can help with our inquiries, that person will be arrested and charged.

"I would remind anyone in that situation that assisting this offence could carry a ten-year jail sentence." Daniel's aunt, Adele Grimshaw, said: "I cannot begin to describe the trauma we are are going through."
