A pregnant woman who was the victim of a vicious attack in her Keighley home has been given the all-clear by doctors.

Jenny Harper, 25, of Hardwick Street, underwent a scan at Airedale General Hospital, Steeton, to check if the attack had affected her baby.

The T&A told earlier this week how Jenny had curled into a ball to protect her unborn child as a masked attacker beat her with a bat.

After the hospital visit, she said: "Doctors said the baby is fine. Everything is OK. I have to go back again in two weeks just to keep an eye on things."

Jenny, who is in the early stages of her pregnancy, was left with 23 stitches in two head wounds and a broken hand and fingers after the attacker struck at 6.30pm on Saturday, while she was in the terraced home alone.

She said doctors had also looked at the X-rays of her shattered hands but would not be removing the bandages for another fortnight.

Jenny, a hairdresser at Clippers Hair Studio in Allerton, Bradford, was attacked as she made tea and waited for her partner to return home.

The man - who remained silent throughout - smashed her over the head with a baseball bat-like club and chased her into the house where she screamed for him to stop.

Police believe he fled after a lodger in the attic was alerted by her cries and dashed downstairs only to find he had fled.

Jenny's partner, Bradford Royal Mail manager Simon Oxley, 28, arrived home to see police dashing into the house and to find Jenny covered in blood.

Acting Detective Inspector Bob Iles has renewed an appeal for witnesses and said police are keen to speak to anyone who saw a man loitering in Hardwick Street or in the area from about 4.30pm on Saturday.

The attacker was between 5ft 10ins and 6ft and wearing a shiny, waist-length bomber jacket and black gloves.

Anyone with information should telephone Keighley police on (01535) 617080.
