Police are hunting an attacker who pounced on a woman crossing a park, only five days after a 25-year-old woman was assaulted in her nearby terrace home.

Detectives in Keighley are not linking the two attacks, in the Lund Park area of the town, in which both women suffered severe head injuries and broken hands. In the latest assault on Thursday, a 32-year-old woman was walking home through Lund Park when she was attacked from behind and hit over the head.

A police spokesman said the attacker hit her again while she lay on the ground. "She suffered a broken thumb and a head injury," he said. An investigating officer said the woman was unable to give a description. "She was carrying out a walk she would normally do to get home and was not far from home when attacked from behind," he said.

Officers advise women walking in the area to be extra vigilant. The attack follows the assault on 25-year-old Jenny Harper in her home in Hardwick Street, near Lund Park, last Saturday. Hairdresser, Jenny, six week pregnant, needed 23 stitches in two head wounds.
