Graham Jarvis ended Dougie Lampkin's winning trials streak in a dramatic tie-breaker finale before 6,000 fanatical French spectators.

Silsden rider Lampkin won the first stage of the Toulouse event from Marcel Justribo, with Jarvis and Steve Colley making up the final quartet.

But Harrogate-based Jarvis won the trial as Lampkin's front wheel slipped on the crucial rock section.

Lampkin got back on the winning track the following night at Le Cannet with victory over Spaniard Marc Colomer.

The contest was another full-house show with Lampkin and Colomer getting spectacular treatment.

Lampkin is the big crowd favourite on the Continent and gets as much support from the spectators as Colomer.

He got even more after getting through six sections without fault - just a single time penalty - beating Colomer by three for the grand final spot.

"It was close again, but I'm pleased to have taken the win, especially as Marc rode so well," said Lampkin.

The victory gives Lampkin a confidence boost before this weekend's World Arena Championship event at Valencia in Spain.

Lampkin won the championship's opening round in Sheffield.

He will need all his skills to win the event taking place in the world's number one trials country.

The prospect of taking on his Montesa team member Colomer on home ground is a daunting prospect for Lampkin.

He must try to keep Colley and Jarvis out of the top spot and the Spanish Federation's big group of sharp teenagers such as Albert Cabestany, David Cobos and Marcel Justribo are also challengers.

The trial has drawn huge attention in Spain and Lampkin can expect a warm reception from the fans.
