Ben Rhydding

Ladies Golf

BEN Rhydding Golf Club Ladies are midway through their winter competition, a gold brooch played over nine holes.

With four remaining gold brooches to play for Joyce Storer is looking a strong contender for taking the overall honours returning some excellent scores reflecting the consistent golf she has been playing over the past few weeks.

Spokesman Janette Mullan said:'We have reached the halfway stage of our winter competition so does that mean we are half way through winter? It certainly does if Wednesday's weather was anything to go by when short sleeves and bare arms were seen - a total contrast to the previous week when everyone was disguised in waterproofs and hiding under umbrellas.'

However, it does seem that come rain or shine Cathy Lambert and Joyce Storer can play in any conditions. Both returned the same scores on consecutive weeks to win gold brooch three and four.

Otley Golf Club

ONCE again, weatherwise, it was men's week at Otley Golf Club. On Tuesday, 34 ladies took part in a par competition. The day was bright but cold and because of early morning frost, winter greens were in play, which made putting somewhat difficult.

However, the 116 men who played in the January Stableford on Saturday, had no cause for complaint, bright and cold but not frosty.

Leading scores (men's section): Division One - D Thompson (10) 38 points; D Pickles (10), 38; P Clark (10) 37; D K P (10) 37; G Hammond (7) 36; A H Clarke (10) 35.

Division Two - M Campbell (14) 39; B Keal (15) 38; P S Wood (17) 37; L Morgan (18) 35; P Lockwood (12) 35; H Phelps (16) 35.

Division Three - D Jordon (23) 39; C Gath (23) 36; T Cook (19) 36; M Frisby (22) 33; J Greenwood (26) 32.

Ladies' section: Division One - Winifred Varley, one down; Judy Holdsworth, one down.

Division Two - Betty Bramwell, two up; Liz Hill, all square.

Division Three - Mary Smith, one down; Lynne Stewart, two down.
