EMLEY 2

Guiseley 2

(Emley won 3-2 on penalties)

GUISELEY found themselve sin a spot of bother on Monday night. They had done all the hard work to level 2-2 with UniBond Premier Division rivals Emley in what was their last chance of silverware for this season.

This Unifilla Cup game then went into extra-time with the sides locked at 2-2. The game then went to penalties and three of Guiseley's five penalty takers failed to find the mark.

Only Des Hazel, returning as a substitute after a long injury lay-off, and debutant central defender Rudi Coleano, promoted from the Reserves, managed to find the target and Emley went through 3-2.

Guiseley had given a good performance after their poor effort at home to bottom side Winsford United on Saturday.

With manager Bobby Davison away on business Guiseley were rocked by two goals from their lowly visitors in the first 17 minutes.

Davison's assistant Neil Parsley was then called away from the ground at half-time as his wife went into labour and the team was left in the charge of the injured Tony Agana and Des Hazel.

They looked on as the side fought back to level 2-2.

Winsford had taken the lead in the 12th minute after early efforts by Guiseley's David Cooke and Simon Parke were thwarted by the 'keeper.

Winsford forced the first corner of the game and when Eddie Hussin's kick came over it found Lloyd Richardson outside the penalty area.

He threaded the ball througfh and in a melee Don Page got the vital touch.

Just five minutes later and Guiseley were rocked back on their heels when Danny Worthington fired in the rebound after John Scarlett's shot had rebounded off 'keeper James Shutt.

Winsford were reduced to ten men in the 40th minute when Karl Munroe pulled Simon Parke down but even against ten men Guiseley were finding it difficult to string their game together.

Steven Hook had been booked for the third game running in the first-half and Guisleey wer all at sea.

In the second-half they hit back with goals from Simon Parke and Andy Shuttleworth to take a share of the spoils.

Monday, with Parsley the proud father of new baby daughter Megan, saw Guiseley celebrate with a much better performance.

This cup quarter-final re-play saw Emley take the lead once again through Gareth Hamlet in the 21st minute but Shuttleworth again popped up to score with a left foot shot after being put through by Simon Parke who was making his 100th appearance for Guiseley along with Andy Williams.

Benn Gallagher gave Guiseley the lead with a superb shot from 30 yards which flew into the top corner.

Emley levelled in the 69th minute and the game went into extra-time.

There were no further goals so the tie was to be decided on penalties.

Guiseley's first two kickers were unsuccessul - Gallagher being a little unlucky when the 'keeper went the wrong way but managed to save with his feet - then Hazel and Coleano scored.

Emley pulled ahead at 3-2 and the last kick was down to Simon Parke but he fired his effort against the post and Guiseley were out.

On Saturday Guiseley travel to Winsford United hoping to gain some revenge and respectability after last Saturday's performance.

They will be without leading scorer Simon Parke who will be serving a one match ban after accumulating five bookings this season.

However, Des Hazel, Tony Agana and James Nettleton will be back in contention for places leaving just Simon Phillips and Neil Parsley on the injured list.

Last Saturday Guiseley Reserves gained a respectable 0-0 draw at Marine with a side which included Des Hazel and James Nettleton as they battle back to fitness.

This Saturday the Reserves entertain Macclesfield Town with a 3pm kick-off.
