Eccleshill United put the disappointment of Saturday's FA Carlsberg Vase defeat behind them when they reached the last four of the West Riding County Cup last night with a 3-0 win over Bradford Park Avenue.

United will have home advantage over Avenue's UniBond Division One counterparts Harrogate Town in the semi-final.

The Plumpton Park outfit took advantage of an Avenue side who started with eight regulars missing. As expected, on-loan goalkeeper Matt Baker deputised for Gavin Kelly, five others joined the first choice number one on the sidelines and striker Jason Maxwell and centre back Neil Bagshaw only made the bench.

The woodwork came to Baker's rescue when United's Andy Sutcliffe hit an early shot but the keeper saved a later effort from the home side's top scorer Stuart Taylor.

Midway through the first half United did beat Baker. He had done well to palm a shot round his post but from the resulting corner Sutcliffe powered in an angled header from ten yards.

Visiting manager Trevor Storton replaced John Francis with Maxwell during the interval but the change did little for his side's chances.

In the 67th minute Baker could only parry a fierce drive and Taylor pounced to lash the loose ball inside the near post.

United sealed their victory 15 minutes from time when former Avenue striker Mick Ward scored against his old club with a well placed shot from just inside the area.

Liversedge were dumped out of the Northern Counties East President's Cup when they went down 3-0 to Mickleover Sports in the quarter final replay at the Derbyshire club's home.

Guiseley will be hard pressed to break their run of five matches without a win in the UniBond Premier Division tonight when they travel to face third-placed Gateshead.

The visitors go into the game looking for points to pull them away from the relegation zone.
