CRAVEN has a new detective inspector - with the promotion of Skipton-based Mick Moore.

Mr Moore, who has been a detective sergeant in the town for about eight years, will take over his new role on Monday.

But as well as being Craven's detective inspector, he will also be in charge of Richmond CID and the western area's family protection unit.

"I am really looking forward to my new job, and continuing to work with the people of Skipton," he told the Herald.

Aged 44, Mr Moore was brought up in York, and joined the police in 1981.

His first posting was in Skipton, where he stayed for three years, before joining CID in Harrogate as a detective constable.

He returned to Skipton when he was promoted sergeant in 1991, and spent 18 months as a uniformed sergeant before going back to CID.

Mr Moore has spearheaded several major inquiries, including the Gargrave canal boat tragedy, the Malsis inquiry, and the double death tragedy in Carleton. He has been commended by judges, coroners and senior officers.

His new job means he will be based in Harrogate. "I will be working with our partners to reduce crime and the fear of crime," he said.

Married with an eight-year-old daughter, Mr Moore has been acting detective inspector since November, and succeeds Neil Thewsey, who is now responsible for Harrogate CID.
