Police have pledged to step up the number of surgeries in the Braithwaite area more than once a month if residents wish.

People living on the Keighley council estate are being urged to attend the new sessions hosted by community constable PC Cliff Ashton.

They will be able to report crimes, seek help with problems and pass on information that could be useful to police.

PC Ashton will hold his first surgery on Wednesday, March 1 from 10am at the Keith Thompson Centre in Guard House Ring.

Also present will be officers from Bradford Council's tenancy enforcement team, which deals with nuisance neighbours.

The regular residents' advice desk, run each week by Braithwaite People's Association, will be held at the same time.

Inspector Mick Hanks, who is responsible for policing in Braithwaite, says the surgery will be held once a month for up to a year to test the public's reaction.

"If we get a good response we'll have it more than once a month. The surgery will only be good if people come and use it," he said.

"We want to open the lines of communication to people who can't get into town to the police station or are reluctant to have police going to their homes."
