Left back Andy Myers, who joined Bradford City in an £800,000 deal from Chelsea last summer, has gone on loan to First Division strugglers Portsmouth until the end of the season.

City have also loaned reserve striker Gareth Grant to First Division Bolton until the end of the campaign.

Both deals went through an hour before yesterday's transfer deadline.

Myers, who has been troubled by ankle and thigh injuries at various times during the season, is fit again but is being kept out of the side by Wayne Jacobs. He was signed with a view to taking over as regular left back.

At Portsmouth he will team up with former City defender Darren Moore.

Assistant manager Chris Hutchings said: "Andy is not happy at the moment because he wants first-team football, but that is difficult because Wayne Jacobs is doing reasonably well.

"Gareth Grant is going to Bolton to gain experience. They are going well in the league and they are in the semi-finals of the FA Cup so it will be good experience for him. Hopefully he will come back hungry to get into the first team."

Midfield player Des Hamilton, who left City three years ago for Newcastle in a £1.5 million deal, has joined Norwich on loan to the end of the season.

Bradford-born Hamilton joined City as a 16-year-old and scored one of the goals that enabled them to beat Notts County 2-0 in the 1995-96 Second Division play-off final at Wembley.

During his time at Newcastle he has had loan spells at Huddersfield Town and Sheffield United.
