Keighley Cougars winger Max Tomlinson has been rewarded for a man of the match performance against York with another first team start.

Tomlinson has had limited opportunities to impress coach Karl Harrison this season but did enough in this week's 26-2 away win to hold down his place for the trip to Lancashire Lynx on Monday.

"Max was outstanding on Monday," said Harrison.

"His overall defensive quality was very good. He played a strong kicking game and driving forward was breaking tackles at regular intervals.

"He scored one try and set up two - that's not bad for a winger.

"He has been in and out of the team this year but has been very patient. He got his chance and took it with both hands so he will start next week."

He was thrust back into the right wing position after Harrison chose to rest Karl Smith.

"Karl has a rib injury and if we had played him he could have been out for eight games instead of one, so we decided to play Max instead," said Harrison.

"I made a few changes to the side which won against Hunslet on Friday. I rested Steve Pickles because he has been carrying a neck injury and brought back Jason Ramshaw in his place.

"We looked a little jaded after the Hunslet game because the players in this division are only part-time and their fitness levels are not as high as in Super League but it was not through lack of effort that we weren't great.

"But we still got the result and kept York to two drop goals which is a big bonus going into the Lancashire Lynx game."
