Slater Marchant Challenge Cup final

Ingleton 2 Barnoldswick Utd 0

INGLETON were deserved winners of the Craven Cup in a competitive but very clean game played at Settle.

They suffered an early blow when midfielder Carl Wood was lost with a back injury but his replacement, Mick Jeffery, made up by having an excellent match.

Ingleton started the stronger side and were unlucky not to score an early goal. Barnoldswick came back and put Ingleton under some pressure.

After 20 minutes the North Craven side thought they had taken the lead through Ian Wildman but his effort was ruled offside.

There was no score at halftime but Ingleton broke the deadlock on the hour when Mark Taylor's shot from 18 yards out found the net. A few minutes later it was 2-0 as Chris Bibby produced a good finish to cap an excellent display.

Barnoldswick fought desperately to retrieve the situation but found the back line of Ian Wildman, Andrew Wheldon and the man-of-the-match Gary Capstick impenetrable.

David Bargh Jonathon Boadle and Robert Dawson all came close to extending the lead as Ingleton finished comfortable victors.

The final of the Northern Plant Hire Challenge Trophy takes place at Gargrave on Monday when Embsay meet Oxenhope.

Embsay denied Skipton Bulldogs their dream of a treble and inflicted their first defeat of the season upon them with a 2-0 win in the semi-final.

Meanwhile Oxenhope put out the holders Silsden with a 3-1 victory.

The league season is grinding to a close with champions and cup winners Skipton Bulldogs 4-0 win over Oxenhope proving decisive in the final league placings.

Jimmy McConville scored a hat-trick in a result which hands Cross Hills the runners-up spot in the Premier Division.

Clitheroe finished top of Division One when they beat Skipton Town 2-0 on Saturday. They were made to fight all the way for the result they needed to clinch the title but two second half goals saw them home.

Runners-up spot went to Addingham, who ended the season with a 7-1 win over St Pauls.

Bronte Wanderers, runaway winners of the Second Division, beat Grindleton Res 7-2 but runners-up spot is still in the melting pot. Barnoldswick United missed a chance of securing it when they lost 2-0 at Embsay Res and Silsden cannot be ruled out after a 5-0 win over Skipton LMS Reserves and Gargrave Reserves by 8-0. With three games left they have to win them all.

Ilkley Juniors Youth clinched the Division Three title in midweek with a 2-1 win over Intake Reserves but lost their final game of the season at the weekend, against the same opponents, by 2-0. Bronte Reserves' 2-0 win at Carleton Reserves means they finish runners-up. Elsewhere, Waddington beat Bradley Reserves 4-1.

Division One League Cup final

Addingham 2 Skipton Town 0

Two well-matched teams fought out a close game with few chances.

There was no score at halftime and as the second half continued in the same pattern, extra time was looming.

Addingham were finally rewarded when a good move split the Town defence and Jamie Barrow was on hand to hit home the ball.

Minutes later Addingham were on the attack again and, although the Town goalkeeper pulled off a great save, Barrow was on hand to knock home the rebound for his second goal.

There was no way back for Town, who had fought hard but lacked a cutting finish.

The cup was presented by Ron Maxfield, a former referee in the league and member of the Craven FA.

Division Three Cup League Final

Intake Waddington

Waddington triumphed in an absorbing final. They took the lead after two minutes and, with Intake's defence all at sea, they added a second minutes later.

But Intake settled down and turned the tables so that by halftime they were level.

The second half was end to end but defences were on top and extra time was looming when a spell of Waddington pressure ended with Anthony Smith prodding home the winner. Intake almost equalised in the dying seconds but their luck was out.

Both sides were a credit to the game for their sportsmanship and commitment and trophies were presented by Andrew Dicken of Vicarage Motors in Barnoldswick, who have sponsored all match balls in the finals.
