PHOENIX face a nail-biting end of season before they will know if they have taken the West Riding County Amateur Championsip.

After going down 3-0 to Hemsworth Miners Welfare on Saturday - in a home match which could have secured the title - the championship could now go all the way to the final match of the season when Hemsworth take on fourth placed Campion next Friday night.

The Miners have a game in hand on the Keighley side who play Marsden in their last match of the season on Monday (May 15). Hemsworth are also in action on Saturday, when they also must play Marsden, the Huddersfield side who could hold the key to the title.

Silsden celebrated the end of their championship winning season with a 10-2 victory over bottom club Ovenden. They showed no mercy to the relegated side with Ryan Hook, Andy Holden and Rob Pearson all hammering in two goals each. Jimmy Hedges, Steve Gray, Mick Rhodes and Martin McClennon were all determined not to be left out of the goal-scoring party with Ovenden being allowed goals through D King and S Bedford before the champagne corks popped.

Shamrocks were unable to add the final gloss to their promotion season as third placed Kinsley Boys snatched a 3-2 victory. Howard Wellwood and Gavin Finn were on target for Shammies with Kinsley goals coming from Devine, Kelly and Jones.

Steeton were desperate for a win to climb above Fields but went down 4-1 to Baildon Trinity. Alex Familio scored Steeton's goal with one game to go they could still go level with Field on points, and the Summerhill club has a far superior goals difference.

The league is to be reorganised next season with first and reserve teams playing in 'mirror' divisions to make the organisation of fixtures easier.

Phoenix Reserves are comfortably safe in Division Two and played out a 1-1 draw with Westbrook Wanderers.

Steeton Reserves have seen their end of season form improve, and although they are still stuck at the bottom of Division Four they beat Hall Green Utd 3-1 with goals from D Middleton (2) and Lee Kus.
