A Riddlesden man has called on the British media to send undercover reporters into troubled Kashmir. Mohammed Israil has also demanded the British government try to persuade India to grant independence to the region.

He has passed his concerns to Keighley MP Ann Cryer and plans to see her again to call for renewed government action.

Mr Israil, of Bradford Road, is among Keighley residents who claim many thousands of innocent civilians on the Pakistan side of the border are being killed by the Indian army.

Parts of Kashmir are within Pakistan and India, and the Indian side is the focus for an armed struggle for independence.

Enquiries by the Keighley News with international news agencies have revealed no incidents of Pakistani villagers being killed.

And Keighley MP Ann Cryer came across no evidence for such attacks when she made an extensive tour of the Kashmir region last year.

Property developer Mr Israil says his nephew and grand-niece were injured in one recent shelling incident, in the village of Danna, and more than 40 were injured last week in the neighbouring village of Browdanna.

Mrs Cryer says any Keighley people who have details of alleged incidents, such as names of villages and injured people, can get in touch with her by contacting her office on 01535 210083.
