Strong interest has been shown in an award-winning historic pub which has been put up for sale.

Offers of around £165,000 are being sought for the private free-of-tie lease on the Old Silent Inn at Stanbury.

The sale follows the decision of owner Mark Narey to concentrate on other business interests. He told us: "I have been here for about six years and I have enjoyed it, but I am now wanting to devote more time to other business concerns."

The pub, which dates back more than 400 years, has featured in numerous publications from top travel guides to fictional works.

Last summer it was voted Pub of the Year in a national competition, following nominations from its customers and mystery visits from a judging panel.

Leigh Parsons, who is handling the sale for Christie & Co, says: "Situated in an area of spectacular moorland scenery, the Old Silent is superbly placed to take full advantage of the year-round tourist and local trade."
