Police were called to a house in Weston Park View at 8.30pm on Sunday.
Neighbour Harold Bowman, 66, of Weston Drive, said: "I was in the garden at the time and I heard some commotion.
"I heard a noise at about 8.15pm to 8.30pm. There were mostly kids about and apparently two of them had seen it happen.
"The ambulance came and then three police cars, then they brought the chap out.
"The police were there all night and the next day.
"I didn't know the people very well because they had only just moved in two to three months ago.
"She was always pleasant and passed the time of day with you. I didn't know him at all."
He added: "I didn't want to get involved because I found a young girl murdered 30 years ago who was the same age as my seven-year-old daughter and it brought it all flooding back."
