An organisation created to champion the cause of small estates has drawn up a hit list of problems and how to tackle them.

The Community Association for the Regeneration of Estates is branching out as its membership triples in the Wyke area of Bradford.

Chairman Mike Stocks said the association now had representatives from five estates in and around Wyke but was still looking for members from Wycollar, Wykelea Close and Eden Close estates.

He said the association was seeking funding for the demolition of vandalised and closed toilets in Wyke park and to build a garden and pavilion there.

The group may also press for a one-stop shop in Wyke and cybercaf on the Shirley Manor or St Mary's estates.

Members want galas in spring or early summer, playgrounds, bike and skateboard areas and a waste recycling scheme.

Problems included on the association's hit list are drug taking and the danger caused by discarded needles.

Members feel the estates need better policing, improved street lighting and a blitz on litter.

Mr Stocks said: "The next few months could prove to be very exciting, not only for the estates in Wyke, but ultimately for the village itself.

"But we do need more people who are prepared to attend our meetings and roll up their sleeves to help."

He said the association was particularly looking for young people aged in their early teens upwards to take part in the projects.

"Many of the initiatives we will be looking at concern them and we really need their input in order to get their views and requirements right," he said.

People interested in joining the association can ring Bradford 751080. The next meeting will be on June 7 at 7pm at the housing office, Common Row, Low Moor Business Park.
