SKIPTON'S century-old Chew's Bar is to be revamped in a refurbishment programme organised by new landlords Terry Stanley and Gavin Pat-terson.

Mr Stanley a well known Ilkley publican and Mr Patterson his business partner took over the bar on Swadford Street this week and plan to close the pub during October to give it a new lease of life.

Meanwhile, local residents and those who frequent the pub can be thinking up ideas for a new name. Any name ideas and reasons behind them should be sent to the landlords in writing. The owner of the winning name will be awarded a prize and a VIP pass to the re-opening night.

Chew's Bar was built in 1901 and its name is taken from Fred and Doris Chew, who ran the pub for many years before the Second World War (they later moved on to the Overdale Country Club on Knaresborough Road and finished at the Tennants Arms, Kilnsey).

Mr Stanley has been a publican for 15 years. He began in Wakefield and Blackpool and now also owns the Star Inn in Ilkley.
