The Bradford 36-hole strokeplay championship, washed out at Bingley St Ives two weeks ago, has been saved.

It will now be staged at Northcliffe on Sunday, August 13 after an emergency meeting of the championship committee decided to re-arrange the calendar.

When torrential rain waterlogged the greens and bunkers at St Ives it had been thought the event could not be salvaged.

But because of concerns at losing one of the major events of the year, a special meeting agreed that the Second Division team championship due at Northcliffe on that day could be put back.

It will now be staged at Calverley on Sunday, Septem-ber 3.

The strokeplay championship is an important event because it determines the 16 who will go through to the amateur matchplay stages, a key element in the T&A golfer of the year competition with up to 16 points available for the winner.

Although last year's event had been restricted to just 18 holes because of bad weather, it was the first time the competition had been completely scrapped.

Entries for the strokeplay are now urgently required and should be sent in writing with name, club and handicap to Alan Barraclough, 93a Bruntcliffe Road, Morley, Leeds, LS27 0JZ by Saturday, August 5 at the latest. Entry fee of £13, made payable to B&DUGC should be enclosed.

Scores in the strokeplay also count towards the Jim Wade Trophy when afdded to performances in the Bradford Open, which is at Shipley a week on Sunday.

This weekend's main event is the Bradford junior team championship at Keighley on Sunday.
