A Bradford firm says it is the first in the world to offer 80 channels of mood music around the UK.

Blucat, based in Thornton, provides the wide range of music using the Astra space satellite which also enables BSkyB to run its satellite television service.

The satellite and audio system Blucat produces does away with the need for CDs or cassettes which pubs, hotels, restaurants, stores and other public buildings use to create an atmosphere. The firm uses the XtraMusic channel which is a European-wide business supplying satellite music and the sounds arrive using full width band technology.

Blucat offers customers a one-stop shop including the dish and receiver, a way of subscribing to the Xtra Music service and amplifiers and speakers.

And the music range Blucat provides is currently seen as the biggest in the world by its managing director Allan Harper.

The firm, which employs 12 people from its headquarters and 30 sales advisors around the country, provides more than two million titles from original artists around the clock.

There is also a wide range of music on offer including jazz, rock, instrumental, classical, country, and soul. There are also three holiday and special events channels on offer to fit in with themed events being held by pubs or restaurants.

Mr Harper, who set up the company with business partner Colin Brighton, said: "We want to make Blucat the biggest and best satellite and audio company in the UK."

The firm, which has been operating for more than nine months, has set itself up to develop high volume sales of the equipment and music service.

It is also planning to become a major audio-visual equipment company with big sales over the next few years.
