Developers of a planned £100 million industrial development on the site of West Bowling golf club today unveiled separate plans for a hotel complex nearby.

Leeds-based Landmark Development Projects Ltd wants to build the £2.5 million hotel, restaurant, pub and three offices in a separate scheme on vacant land in Rooley Lane at the back of the club.

Director Richard Morton said today that hotel and pub operators were already lined up for the development.

He added that the budget priced, 80-bedroom hotel was in a prime location close to the motorway and, if approved by Bradford planners, work on the development was expected to start before the end of the year, with completion next summer.

Landmark has built up its portfolio for Bradford projects still further with the acquisition of the Mothercare store in Broadway. It is in talks about a retail outlet with a consortium planning the £200 million redevelopment of the bottom end of the city.

The company - which says it is homing in on Bradford because of its potential - is also planning to convert a large part of Broadway/Market Street into a hotel.

It recently bought Treadwells Mill, Little Germany, for housing and proposes to build a third hotel on the site of Shipley Paints, Leeds Road.

Mr Morton said: "We are looking at the potential of Bradford after developing in Leeds over a number of years. Leeds is costly and for some reason Bradford has not ridden on the back of Leeds."

Landmark plans to carry out the Rooley Lane scheme jointly with another company, Commercial Developments Projects.

lThe West Bowling golf club planning application has been submitted to Bradford Council and people can make representations over the next three weeks. It can be inspected at Jacob's Well planning offices. The project - called the St Andrew's development - would take seven to ten years to complete and the developers say it could lead to more than 8,000 jobs.
