Bradford City's new-look strike force of Dean Windass and Robbie Blake shared the honours in this 2-0 win in a pre-season friendly last night.

After a goalless first half, Windass laid on the first goal for Blake and then scored the second himself in the best move of the match.

In between Blake missed a penalty, but apart from that it was an encouraging performance by the 24-year-old striker who struggled in vain for a regular place in City's Premiership side last season.

It was also a satisfying night's work for Windass, restored to his original striker's role after playing in midfield to prove what a valuable and versatile footballer he is.

Both sides had chances in an even first half, but City dominated the second period as their class began to tell and they went in front four minutes after the interval following a superb piece of opportunism from Windass.

The City player took the ball off David Smith near the edge of the penalty area before pulling it back into the path of Blake who sidefooted it into the empty net.

Dan Petrescu displayed good passing and movement throughout and he almost scored himself after 65 minutes following a good link-up with Windass.

City set the seal on their victory with a memorable goal, the result of a four-man move. Lee Sharpe played the ball to Blake on the right and when he squared it back to Petrescu the Romanian international crossed first time to the far post where Windass beat Coyne to head the ball into the net.

Assistant manager Stuart McCall said: "It was a good exercise for the boys. We played some smashing football, the second goal was great and confidence is high.

"Dan Pretescu came off near the end because he was a bit tired and stiff."
