A Chinese takeaway owner has gone on trial accused of raping an illegal immigrant after he offered her a job.

Yui Tse, 49, is alleged to have attacked the woman, who cannot be identified for legal reasons, in the bedroom of a flat above the Canton Flavour takeaway in Eccleshill.

Prosecutor Sean Morris told a jury at Bradford Crown Court Tse suggested to the woman they could have a "husband and wife relationship" and complimented her on how pretty she was.

"He said he wanted to sleep with her,'' said Mr Morris.

"By now she was shaking and she began crying. She said she had come to work not to have sex with him.''

Mr Morris alleged that Tse, who lives in Harrogate, began telling her she was a refugee and he could have her sent back unless she agreed to have sex.

Speaking through an interpreter the woman said: "He asked me to get rid of my clothes. I didn't want to do that but there was no-one around and I had no choice."

After the alleged rape in March last year Tse allowed the woman to phone her boyfriend but told her not to tell anyone about what had happened.

Mr Morris told the jury that Tse, who denies rape, contacted the police later and suggested he was being framed for rape.

Tse stated he was being asked for work by the woman and that she had told him she would "do anything'' for him.

He said she offered to sleep with him for more money and consented to sex.

The case continues.
