GUY SAXTON'S six wicket haul was not enough to secure victory for Steeton as they chase their second league championship.

Knaresborough struggled to 128 as Saxton did the damage, his six victims coming at a cost of just 18 runs. But the Summerhill side could not find the batsmen to back up his good work as the middle order collapsed after 32 from Astralian Matt Pinniger and a knock of 45 from Neil Spragg looked to have put them firmly in the driving seat.

The Steeton innings slumped to 118 all out as they missed out on the chance of collecting caluable points.

Gusieley piled up a total of 200 against Silsden, thanks largely to an innings of 83 from Glen Taylor. The Cobbydale batsmen were determined to hold on for a draw and the batted out a tough rearguard action to hold the line at 108-7.

Silsden 2nds batting was again found wanting as they failed to overcome a modest total of 124 at Horsforth.

Mick Harwick picked up six wickets at the home side's batting attack was held in check. He was backed up by John Roberts (2-11), Dave Baluk (1-32) and Matt Shuttleworth (1-21) as they dismissed Horsforth in 38 overs.

Silsden got off to a steady start in reply and were 50-1 after 15 overs. Chris Meehan scored 13 and Stuart Tillotson 15 before the wheels came off their innings. They stumbled to 60-6 after 23 overs, before Shuttleworth (16) and Baluk (24) rallied to the cause.

Victory looked a possibility at 94-7, but it was not to be as Steve Pullen picked up six wickets for 21 runs to secure victory for the Leeds side.

James Emmott rattled up 109 for Steeton 2nds as they set Knaresborough a target of 258-7. He was backed up by D Greaves (39), Oliver Gledhill (36) and D Robinson 46.

Emmott followed up with six wickets as Knaresborough were dismissed for 150.
