The Bradford & Bingley has been given the final thumbs-up for its conversion to a bank.

The Building Societies Commission has officially confirmed the B&B's transfer to an independent financial Plc.

It is the last hurdle to becoming a Plc before the company's flotation on the London Stock Exchange on December 4 when members will become shareholders and gain £800 in a windfall.

Chris Holland, the B&B's corporate communications manager, said: "We are very pleased that the final confirmation has been made known."

The B&B was forced to go down the conversion route after Stephen Major won a vote at a special meeting last year which was followed by a board vote to become a Plc in July.
