Ideal Isberg 26, Dudley Hill 18: Dudley Hill produced a great performance before finally losing 26-18 in the National Conference Premier Division.

They could console themselves with having the best player on the pitch in Neil Shoesmith who was well supported by Marc Gibson.

Hill also scored a superb try through winger Kirk Johnson.

The visitors enjoyed most of the early possession but were unable to turn it into points and some poor tackling allowed Andy Hird to go over for a try for the home side which was converted.

But Hill exerted more pressure and it paid off after 17 minutes with Shoesmith going in under the posts from acting half-back and Jason Wood converting.

However, they quickly fell behind again after knocking-on from the kick-off.

But Hill responded with a sensational effort from Johnson.

Taking the ball on his own line from a grubber kick, he side-stepped three players and outstripped the cover in running the length of the field to score.

Isberg responded with another try before half-time, but Gibson's penalty on the re-start reduced Hill's deficit to only 14-12.

They kept up the pressure with some great runs from John Vaicekauskas and Jason Hoyland and took the lead for the first time close to the hour mark when Gibson put Wood through a gap to touch down, and then added the conversion.

But Hill's handling mistakes gave Isberg the platform they were searching for and eight minutes from time they grabbed a converted try to squeeze 20-18 ahead.

More heavy pressure resulted in Hartley completing his hat-trick to leave Hill still chasing that elusive second victory.

They remain rooted to the foot of the table though they showed they have the spirit to climb out of trouble.
