England's teenage sensation Leon Pryce has urged coach John Kear not to write him out of his Lincoln World Cup plans just yet.

The 19-year-old Bradford Bulls winger suffered a dislocated shoulder in England's record 76-4 win over Russia in their second group match at St Helens on Wednesday night.

Pryce, who was a certainty for England's right-wing spot after impressing in the opening defeat by Australia, will miss tomorrow's final group game against Fiji at Headingley and the quarter-final a week later but believes he could be back for the later stages of the tournament if the team are involved.

Pryce suffered a recurrence of the injury he sustained in a Super League match at Huddersfield in April during the run-up to the Bulls' appearance in the Challenge Cup final.

He missed only two matches then, playing in the Murrayfield victory over Leeds, and hopes his spell on the sidelines will be just as brief now.

"I feel a bit optimistic," he said today. "I did it during the season and was back in two weeks. So if I look on the bright side and if the scans go well, I could be OK if we get to the quarters and the semis."

Pryce, who had scored the opening try of the second half, picked up the injury as he attempted to set up a counter attack after fielding a deep kick from Russian stand-off Andrei Olari.

"As I passed the ball, someone fell on top of me as my arms were out," he explained. "The shoulder popped out and went back in again, just as it did at Huddersfield.

"Obviously I am a bit upset and disappointed because I was looking to go well with England this year and hopefully get to the final. But that's the way things go in sport.

"If we get to the quarters or semis and it's just a dislocation, I should have time to strengthen it back up and I think I should be OK."

The loss of Pryce would be a major blow for coach John Kear, who was deprived of the services of rugby union bound Jason Robinson before he named his squad and has since lost two other wingers, Francis Cummins (Leeds) and Nathan McAvoy (Bulls), through injury.

Paul Wellens (St Helens) and Darren Rogers (Castleford) have been added to the squad already and England manager David Howes said a decision on whether to call up another replacement would be considered when they received a full medical report on Pryce.

Karl Pratt (Leeds) would be high on the list of potential replacements but, in the short term, England have the versatile Kris Radlinksi to come back into the side for Saturday's match.

With Stuart Spruce and Wellens both capable of playing full-back at the highest level, Radlinski is an obvious choice for either centre or wing.

The England players were given a day off after playing two games in five days and Kear will name his line-up for the Fijiian match at a news conference today after receiving the latest medical checks.

Loose forward Paul Sculthorpe is still undergoing treatment for a pulled hamstring and second rower Adrian Morley, stand-off Tony Smith and centre Scott Naylor were all nursing knocks from the Australian match.

Fortunately for England, Pryce was the only casualty from the 14-try rout of the Russians.
