A Silsden Venture Scout unit celebrated its 21st birthday in style.

The Cobbydale unit marked the milestone with a reunion at Penistone Hill.

Around 60 people, including former unit members from as far afield as Cornwall and Edinburgh, attended the weekend gathering at the Westfield Lodge bunkhouse.

Leader Ian Neale says: "It was a very successful and enjoyable event.

"We had managed to track down former members through word of mouth and email. It was good to see folk again and to reminisce about old times.

"It was also interesting to learn about the diverse career paths our former Ventures had taken.

"We had amongst others a bridge builder from Barnsley, a doctor from Edinburgh, a company director from Cornwall, a university technician from Aberystwyth, an information technologist from London, a physio from Leeds and even an eco-warrior!".

Some ex-District Commissioners also attended the gathering.

In its formative days the Cobbydale unit was part of the 1st Silsden Scout group.

The unit later became an arm of the 9th Keighley (2nd Silsden) group before going solo - as 5th Keighley - in the mid-1990s.

The Venture Scout section caters for young people aged 15-20.
