Computer aided design (CAD) tutors at Keighley College have been thanked in the form of a rhyming poem by a grateful award-winning student.
Ralph Cooper and Derek Crabtree have had many successful students over the years, but have never before had their praises put into verse.
Mature student Alan Pickles won the CAD special achievement award and a prize from CCL Computers.
Alan, from Wrose, wanted to write a personal note of thanks that expressed both his feelings about his tutors and his time at college.
Tutor Mr Cooper said: "Both Derek and I were surprised and grateful to receive such a lovely poem of thanks.
"Increasingly individuals like Alan choose to take the positive step to learn new skills or expand their knowledge on courses like computer aided design, which now has so many applications in the modern world of work.
"CAD designers go on to work in many areas, from traditional engineering and manufacturing roles, to work in garden and clothes design, and we wish Alan well with his new career and continuing studies."
The poem reads:
Just a few lines to say,
Last Thursday really made my day.
In some ways I feel unworthy when I see
How quickly others have succeeded,
But also how thankful I've been when help
Was offered just when it was needed.
This course has been a lifeline that lifted me
When I was down,
It gave me the courage to go on, made me smile
Where there would have been a frown.
This Thank You is for your dedication, not
Just from me, but from all who pass through,
For your wit, for your patience, for your
Encouragement, and everything you both do.
Sometimes it seems you go far beyond that
Which is expected,
And at times it must seem that we will never
Take it in, but you never get dejected.
You believe in the task set before you, you
Think only of the well being of your fellow
Woman/man.
To you we are all equal, we come for training,
We are accepted, then you do all that you can.
The skills I've learned, at first were beyond my
Comprehension, you made possible that beyond
My reach.
You prove over and over again, no one is too
Old, not brainy enough, or impossible to teach.
This notelet is only saying what oft times I've
Thought, things I wanted to say,
The fact I received a prize is due to the both of
You, and thank God for you both at the end of the day.
May you both long continue to pass on your
Knowledge, humour and skill,
May those whom you teach find success, reach
Their goals, and climb their highest hill.
You both have much to feel proud of, in the
Guidance that you share,
Not just things about AutoCAD, also help to
Find work, showing how much you care.
I will leave it there, but there's lots more I
Could say,
Thank you for the marvellous prize, but also
For the little successes at the end of each day.
