Keighley's flooding nightmare is making waves across the globe. Pictures of the severe flooding at Stockbridge were shown on New Zealand TV news bulletins.
Former Keighley man Bill Walsh e-mailed the Keighley News after seeing the pictures, which evoked childhood memories for him of flooding at the same spot more than half a century ago.
He says: "I have just watched the television news in New Zealand and to my horror I saw Keighley featured, for the wrong reasons.
"The flooding looks pretty widespread -- I hope that there were no casualties.
"It is many years since I left Keighley but it looked to me to be at Stockbridge by the hotel. That is exactly the same place where it flooded when I was a youngster -- in the late 40s -- when the Aire burst its banks."
He adds: "We have had some big floods in New Zealand in low lying areas in recent years and it is a harrowing time for everyone affected. I wish you well and hope that life gets back to normal very soon."
