Bradford City chairman Geoffrey Richmond was resting at his Leeds home today after being released from hospital.

Mr Richmond, who was taken ill at the end of City's 4-3 Worthington Cup defeat at Newcastle on Wednesday night, has been advised to take it easy, although it is unclear how long he will spend away from Valley Parade.

He was allowed home yesterday afternoon from Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary after undergoing tests in the coronary care unit.

Managing director Shaun Harvey visited him in hospital and said: "Geoffrey is fine. After a comfortable night on Wednesday, he had some tests and was then allowed to return home.

"I am pleased to confirm that he did not suffer a heart attack."

Richmond watched the whole game at St James's Park which saw City fight back from three goals down to equalise before losing 4-3. He fell ill shortly afterwards and, after seeing the Newcastle club doctor, an ambulance was called.

It is not known if he will be travelling to London to see City's match at Charlton tomorrow.

Manager Chris Hutchings was kept informed of the chairman's condition as the team trained in the north-east yesterday before flying down to the capital. He said: "It is a shock to everyone but I understand the chairman is okay."
