Addressing 80 young policemen and policewomen after inspecting them prior to passing out from No. 3 District Police Training Centre, Mansfield, yesterday, Mr H S Price, Chief Constable of Bradford, said: "Much is said these days about the British way of life, but the British way of life is only possible under the British police system. I cannot stress too strongly the basic principle of policing in this country, and that is that we are the servants of the public, and not their masters. We owe allegiance to no political party, and in this country, where there is free speech and self expression, such valuable principles are only possible under our system of policing."
