Bradford City could take up to a fortnight to appoint a successor to Chris Hutchings.

Chairman Geoffrey Richmond today revealed that plenty of names had been thrown into the hat to take over the Valley Parade post.

The latest candidate to be linked with the job is Scot Jim Jefferies, who last night left Hearts after five years.

A report in Edinburgh this morning claimed he has been recommended to City by David Pleat, who has also been tipped to take over.

Caretaker boss Stuart McCall will take charge for the Everton home game on Saturday alongside Neville Southall and they could be in control for the visit to Derby next week, where McCall will be suspended.

But McCall yesterday ruled himself out of the race to have the job permanently to concentrate on playing.

Other names being mentioned are Neil Warnock, Terry Venables, Roy Evans, Joe Kinnear and Steve Bruce.

Richmond, who was contacted by some interested parties two weeks before he sacked Hutchings, said: "There's been a high level of interest in the vacancy and there are some interesting names in there.

"Some of those people have not been mentioned in the widespread speculation.

"I believe that within the next seven days we should be able to compile a shortlist of three or four candidates. We aim to make an announcement before the end of November."
