A PARTIALLY sighted woman was conned out of cash by a man pretending to mend roofs. The woman, who is registered blind, invited the man into her home on Tuesday last week just after 11am after being told some roof slates needed replacing. She had mistakingly believed the man was of a reputable firm who had carried out work before. Once inside the house in St Margaret's Road, Horsforth, the man asked for a drink of water and for £30 to pay for materials. He said he would return later for more money to complete the repairs. He is described as around 40 o 50 years old, around 5ft 9ins, of stocky build and wearing a flourescent yellow top.

POLICE are warning car owners to beware after a spate of wheel thefts. Cars parked in hotel carparks in Rawdon, Yeadon and Bramhope have been

targeted by thieves in the last week. On Monday last week a black Ford Mondeo Zetec had two alloy wheels stolen at the Apperley Manor Hotel, Rawdon, between 6.45pm and 7.50pm. A Ford Escort was seen parked next to the car. The suspect was disturbed and left the other two wheels. A Ford Mondeo was left propped up on bricks after wheels worth £800 were stolen outside the Yeadon Stoops pub between 7pm and 9.30pm the same day. Thieves also took alloy wheels from two Vauxhall Vectra cars parked outside the Jarvis International Hotel, Bramhope.

l On October 31 at around 12.30pm, the occupier of a house in Woodveil Terrace, Horsforth, was in bed when a burglar broke in. More than £200 damage was caused by the intruder who removed putty from a kitchen window to get into the house.

l Stone flags worth a total of £1,200 were stolen from a house in Rawdon Road, Horsforth, on October 31, between 9.10am and 3.15pm. Flags worth £800 were also stolen from a house in Low Hall Road, Horsforth, on November 1.
