PUPILS and teachers at a Burley-in-Wharfedale school were forced to flee their classrooms after water poured into the building during last week's floods.
Burley Oaks School, on Langford Lane, fell foul of the harsh weather last Wednesday afternoon when a torrent of water gushed into classrooms and the IT suite.
Children were sent home and the school remained closed on Thursday and Friday while a team of experts assessed the damage.
"We are coping with the
problem," said headteacher Roy Pallas. "The school re-opened on Monday and the flooring in some areas is being taken up, sanitised and replaced.
"Hopefully the equipment in the IT suite has not been
damaged."
Reception classes and children from Years 1 and 2 have been temporarily moved and an open evening which was due to be held on November 14 has been postponed.
"We hope to rearrange the open evening for a later date before Christmas," said Mr Pallas.
