THE type of religious education Ilkley's children will receive in the next five years is being discussed. Representatives of the Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Baha'i, Buddhist, Jewish and Sikh faiths have been meeting with education officers and councillors at the Bradford Interfaith Centre to discuss the issue. Conference chairman Don Hassall, former head of teacher education at Bradford College, said: "Teachers in Bradford have followed a multi-faith religious education syllabus since 1983 which was last reviewed in 1986. Religious education helps children to develop spiritually but needs to be based on accurate information about all faiths in the district. It also helps pupils to respect others and live peacefully with people of many different backgrounds. This is vitally important in a culturally diverse district like Bradford."
