Remembrance Day commemorations in Silsden this weekend have been given an extra significance as the parish council honours the town's fallen men and women.

The town's roll of honour, listing all those people from the Silsden area who died in the Second World War, has been put on display on a purpose built plaque in the Town Hall council chamber.

To accompany the framed list is a picture of His Majesty's Torpedo Boat 75, which was sponsored by the town during the Second World War. Also on display is a picture of a plaque from the boat being presented to the parish council earlier this year.

Parish council chairman Geoff Whittaker says: "The roll of honour is a long historical document and I think it's important to the people of Silsden.

"We on the parish council are all very pleased that it's mounted and accessible to all the people who want to see it.

"It has particular resonance with Remembrance Sunday this weekend."
