A handy guide has been produced for ramblers keen to explore a new walk around the district. A pocket-sized guide to Bradford's new Millennium Way has been launched to provide walkers with a plan of the route.

The 45-mile circular walk around the Bradford district was created by Countryside Service volunteers Chris Buckley, Jim Thornber, Malcolm Hutton, Andy Wood and Phil Hatton.

They have compiled the guide which provides a detailed explanation of the walk's 11 sections and interesting landmarks, such as Bront Bridge and White Wells.

Chris says: "One of the purposes of the guide is to let people know that the walk is actually open and is there for local people to enjoy."

He adds: "It is surprising how much beautiful countryside there is in this area, and doing this walk will help you to find it."

The walk, which follows existing footpaths, took 18 months to realise and was officially opened on September 16 by Mark Reid, author of The Inn Way.

Starting at Bracken Hall, the Millennium Way takes in Harden, Cullingworth, Denholme, Leeming, Oxenhope, Oldfield, Laycock, Goose Eye, Eastburn, Silsden and Addingham.

From there the walk continues to White Wells and then on to Weecher Reservoir before finishing back at the Millennium Way stone monument at Bracken Hall.

Bradford Environmental Action Trust (BEAT) has contributed most of the money for the booklets, with Bradford Countryside Services donating all the way marking equipment.

The booklet costs £1.99 and can be bought from numerous places on the route and local tourist information offices.
