Keighley Arts Factory is hoping to secure its future with grant funding.
Keighley College faculty head John Bewick, who has backed the factory since it began a year ago, announced plans to apply for a Yorkshire Arts grant and tap into European Objective 2 funding.
He said: "Remember this is a new style municipal gallery. There are not the wealthy philanthropists any more.
"It is up to the generosity of the college and people that the gallery can be maintained."
The project, housed in a former lift factory, is currently funded by Keighley SRB and managed by Keighley College.
Objective 2 European community funding is now available for bids from Keighley organisations. Money will not be released until 2001.
The contemporary gallery's latest exhibition, 2Day, opened last week.
