Manorlands fundraisers are appealing for public support to make this Christmas a cracker.

The Oxenhope Sue Ryder hospice is seeking volunteers to help sell tickets for its annual festive prize draw.

The event is among the home's biggest single money-spinners, and last year raised about £10,000.

Dozens of prizes are on offer including a Sky digital satellite system, helicopter rides, travel vouchers, a hi-fi system and a video recorder. Top prize is £1,000 from the Bradford and Bingley Building Society.

Companies, local organisations and individuals are being urged to help sell tickets.

Tickets will also be on sale at Morrisons' supermarket in Worth Way, Keighley, on November 23 (afternoon only) and 24.

The draw is on December 1. Fundraiser Chris Bown says: "The Christmas draw is one of our biggest events and raises vital funds.

"We would be delighted to hear from anyone able to help out."

* Just over £1,000 was raised at the Manorlands Christmas fair on Saturday.

The volunteer team organised the annual event at the Oxenhope hospice with several stalls and a visit from Santa.

Items made by the new volunteers' craft group were sold for the first time, and a stall of prize gifts was organised by volunteers from Denholme.

The jewellery stall proved popular because, for the first time, items were sold in boxes made by a Queensbury firm.

Sue Bradley, the volunteers' co-ordinator, says the amount raised was excellent considering last week's bad weather.

She adds: "I want to thank everyone who helped to make the Christmas fair a success by donating goods, giving their time and attending the fair."
