A Riddlesden father and son are honouring the memory of their wife and mother with a European bike ride.

Jane Daw died of breast cancer three years ago.

This inspired husband Kenneth and son Joseph, who live on Arnside Avenue, to join a sponsored bike ride in Filey in aid of Manorlands and other hospices in 1997.

Aged 10 at the time, Joseph was the youngest person taking part that year.

They did the same race the following year.

But their next big adventure is overseas in April 2001, when they join around 25 others in a 270-mile ride from Vienna to Prague to raise money for the British Lung Foundation.

Kenneth says Joseph, now 13, was brought up with a love of outdoor life.

"My wife liked walking and cycled as well," he adds.

Before Kenneth and Joseph can go they need to raise £3,200 in sponsorship. Anyone who can help with sponsorship should contact Kenneth on 01535 667751.
