YOUNG cyclists will have a chance to take their first steps on the ladder to Olympic cycling glory when the Yorkshire Cyclocross Championships are held next weekend at Holy Family School.

"Anyone who fancies being the next Jason Queally or Yvonne McGregor should give it a try. Cyclocross isn't track racing, but it provides all the experience and excitement of cycle racing," said Patrick Connolly.

Cyclocross is off-road racing held on short circuits such as those available in the school grounds and is suitable for mountain bikes.

Races are held in age groups of Under-8, Under-12, Under-14, Under-16 and Over-16, relating to school year groups. There will be medals for the first three individuals and teams in each category for boys and girls with teams made up of two boys or three girls in the same age group from the same school.

Entries close on November 15 with details and entry forms available from Patrick Connolly on 01535-671008.
