An injury-hit Silsden team pulled off a fantastic victory, away from home, in the West Riding County Cup beating Beeston St Anthony's 2-1.

It was always going to be a difficult tie against a side who finished second in the West Yorkshire Premier League last season. Silsden made all the early running but the wet conditions meant it was always going to be difficult for either side to play flowing football.

The first goal of the game came deep into the second half. A looping cross from the right by Michael Rhodes seemed to deceive the keeper who pushed the ball onto his own crossbar and Jimmy Hedges poked the ball into an open goal.

It seemed as if the tie was won, but 3 minutes from time Beeston equalised sending the game into extra time.

The winning goal came in the 2nd half of extra time. The hero of the moment was veteran player manager Andrew Geary who came on from the subs bench. He placed the ball home from 18yds after terrific pace was shown by Lee Rielly.

Jimmy Christian and Martin Bland gave battling performances in the midfield, and Sean McNulty led by example in the Silsden goal, to complete Silsden's eleventh consecutive victory.
