LAURENCE HELLAWELL put in a storming run to win our 'Run-within-a-Run' after over 40,000 people ran the 20th Great North Run.

Laurence, a member of the Keighley & Craven Athletic Club stormed home in 52nd place at the head of the 36,844 finishers. He finished in 1hr 10mins 32 secs, just 25 seconds behind the women's marathon world record holder, Tegla Laroupe.

Our women's winner is Natalie Wright who was taking part with a group of runners from the Workouts Gym on Oakworth Road, Keighley, she completed the half-marathon course in 1:52.04.

Both winners will receive an engraved plaque and a pair of top class Reebok DMX running shoes.

Hundreds of other local runners completed the race, raising thousands of pounds for charity.

Haworth GP, Dr John Burton was less than two minutes away from his target time of 1 hour 48 minutes when he crossed the line in 1:49:58, running to raise money for the Simon turner-Bottomley Trust, in member of the Haworth climber who died on the Matterhorn. Dr Burton's wife, Diane, completed the course in 2hrs 26mins 6secs.

Yorkshire Electricity engineer Paul Stowell, 34, gave up most of his wedding anniversary to raise money for the Anthony Nolan Bone Marrow Trust. His wife Jean was there to see him finish the half marathon in 1:44:04.

Carer Scott Kristen and Weikan Cheung, who suffers from celebral palsy said they would be happy to complete the course, before setting out. The crossed the finishing line in 2hrs 48mins 01secs, but after returning to Keighley were among hundreds forced to evacuate their homes in Stockbridge as flood water poured in.

Friends Lindsey Greenwood of Cross Hills and Collette White of Sutton finished together in just over 3hrs 14mins.

Student Chris Myers raised money for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and was among the back markers with a time of 3hrs 38mins 16 secs -- but he was among the finishers of the biggest participation event in British sporting history.
