Massive cuts in overtime worked by West Yorkshire county council staff are to be enforced. Union officials have received an assurance that there will be no redundancies as long as they carry on working without extra staff. The announcement, made by Councillor Eddie Newby of Bradford, will help to save £60m from the next ten years' capital figure of £363m.

Parents in Thornton are being asked to sign a petition supporting Thornton Youth Club, which Bradford Education Committee has decided must leave the Grammar School. The petition says: "The only thing said against them is that they are noisy. Of course they are - children who are not noisy are either dull or deceptive."
