Jamie Law-rence is looking for Bradford City to take the confidence gained from their Worthington Cup defeat at Newcastle seven weeks ago into tomorrow's Premier-ship match at St James' Park.

City lost 4-3 in the third round tie after fighting back from 3-0 down, but they had the satisfaction of scoring three goals in the match after notching only two in their previous six Premiership matches.

"I think we can take a lot of heart from that game," said Lawrence.

"If we play like we did in the second half in tomorrow's match we can get something out of the game.

"It was a great comeback after we went 3-0 down, and we go into tomorrow's match with confidence.

"Now our fitness levels are up and we are starting to believe in ourselves.

"We expect a backlash tomorrow because Newcastle lost 5-0 at Arsenal last week, but we are looking forward to the match.

"St James' Park is a wonderful place to play and has a great atmosphere. It is what the Premiership is all about. That is why we have got to stay there."

A lot has changed since City's Worthington Cup match at Newcastle on Wednesday, November 1 - less than a week later manager Chris Hutchings lost his job and City are now unbeaten in their three matches under Jim Jefferies.

Lawrence believes the players are gaining the benefit from a more rigorous training schedule.

"Training has been harder under Jim Jefferies, and we are working more on team patterns we will be using in our next match," he said.

"In our last two matches against Coventry and Tottenham we have been the stronger in the last 25 minutes and fought back well to take something from each match.

"Our three-match unbeaten run with the win over Coventry and draws against Spurs and Middlesbrough has lifted us off the bottom and put us back in the pack of clubs trying to get away from the relegation zone.

"This unbeaten run has given us a lot of confidence and we want to keep it going."
